NBA Indiana Pacers player, Rick Smits lead the start of
the opening over 40 Intermediate moto at round
ten of the AHRMA
Jakes Garage National Post-Vintage Motocross Series on
June 22nd at the
Broome-Tioga Sports Center in Binghamton, New York.
On
the last day of the AHRMA Vintage National at
Broome-Tioga, the racing took place on the former AMA
Motocross Championship Series full National racecourse.
Hurd Motorsports, promoters of this world class facility,
provided a track groomed to perfection for the post
vintage motocross machines that
inspired the "long travel" revolution that
transformed motocross into the sport it is today, a sport
very different from the short travel era.

Michael
Blauman (476), Robert Eichlin (136) and David Smeal (63)
lead the start of the opening Ultima 250 Expert moto at
the AHRMA Jakes Garage National Post-Vintage Motocross Series
race at the Broome-Tioga Sports Center on June 22nd
in Binghamton, New York.
When
the gate dropped for start of the opening over 40
Intermediate moto, retired NBA Indiana Pacers player, Rick
Smits led the pack out of the switch-back first turn
followed by George Schaible, Merritt Brown and Arthur
Niver. When the leader’s descended the National Hill
after a half lap, Smits was all alone out front,
14-seconds ahead of Schaible, in second. After three and a
half laps, Smits lead was 16-seconds and Niver, in third,
closed the gap on Schaible, in second, to a few bike
lengths. Schaible, realizing Niver may be too close,
picked up his pace and put some distance between them.
Smits had a 22-second advantage when he got the white
flag. The gap separating Niver in third and Brown in
fourth was a whopping 40-seconds. Smits crossed the finish
line 29-seconds ahead of Schaible followed by Niver and
Brown.

Robert
Eichlin (136) and Michael Blauman (476) battle for the

Smits,
Schaible, Brown and Niver led the start of the final over
40 Intermediate moto. Brown passed Schaible on the
“Hill” taking second. Schaible was relegated to third.
Smits set a blistering pace and had a 15-second cushion by
the start of lap two. Niver passed Schaible in the final
corner of lap one to secure third. Schaible was relegated
to fourth. Smits increased his lead to 22-seconds by the
start of lap three and the battle for third continued
between Schaible and Brown. The two swapped positions
several times until Schaible made the final pass for third
half way into lap three. Smits took the checkers with a
whopping 44-second lead. Niver, Schaible and Brown
followed.
Smits
topped the podium with a perfect 1-1.Niver claimed second
with his 3-2 rides and Schaible closed out the podium with
a 2-3 score.
Michael
Blauman, Robert Eichlin, David Smeal, Joe Kelly and Scott
Mitchell led the start of the first Ultima 250 expert moto.
Eichlin took the point on the “Hill” relegating
Blauman to second. Less than a quarter of a lap later,
Blauman re-took the lead on the Broome-Tioga Dinner Table
displacing Eichlin back to second. Blauman started lap
three with a five second lead that he increased to nine
seconds at the checkers. Eichlin, Smeal, Kelly and
Mitchell closed out the top five.

Joe
Kelly (40H) and Scott Mitchell (279) battle for third in
the first Ultima 250 Expert moto at the AHRMA
Jakes
Garage National Post-Vintage Motocross Series race at the
Broome-Tioga Sports Center on June 22nd in
Binghamton, New York.
Eichlin
and Blauman led the start of the final Ultima 250 Expert
moto trailed by Smeal, Mitchell and Kelly. Eichlin and
Blauman battled for the point position for the last half
of the first lap. They were side by side over the Dinner
Table and the following huge off-camber double in the
upper left corner of the racecourse. Eichlin managed to
hold Blauman off for the next lap and a half until Blauman
made the pass for the point on the “Hill” three and a
half laps in. Eichlin was relegated to second. Eichlin
quickly pulled away to a three second lead that increased
to five seconds by the end of the moto. Eichlin, Smeal,
Kelly and Mitchell completed the top five.

Blauman
(1-1) topped the podium. Eichlin (2-2) took second and
