Peters Perfect at Opening Round of Northeast Classic Motocross Series

2010 Northeast Classic Motocross Series

Englishtown, New Jersey, March 28, 2010

The 2010 Northeast Classic Motocross Series, celebrating its 19th year, finally got under way after being postponed for two weeks due to heavy rains that blanketed the entire east coast. Unfortunately, the series continues to lacks a title sponsor for the second year in a row due to the worst economic downturn this nation has experienced since the Great Depression. If that weren’t enough, this will be the first year in its 19-year history that no motorcycle dealers will be sponsoring motorcycle give-a-ways at any of the five rounds in the series. Fortunately, there will be continued support from the motorcycle manufactures in the form of factory contingency. Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha continue to support the series for 2010.

The series promoters hope that riders will continue to support the series so that the manufactures will also continue their ongoing support with factory contingency next year and for many years to come. Hopefully, the economy will turn around and the series will be back on its feet for 2011 and beyond.

Yamaha pilot, Joey Peters, topped the podium of the extremely competitive Open Amateur class after taking hard fought wins in both motos. Peters led the opening moto for the first two laps until Luke Renzland, who took runner-up on the podium via his consistent 2-2 finishes, took the lead in rough, whooped-out back section of the racecourse. Peters came back on the last lap to re-take the lead and the win by a two second margin.

Renzland and Peters gated third and fourth off the start in the final moto and quickly diced their way to the front in less than a half lap. Renzland led until lap four when lapped traffic allowed Peters to reel Renzland in. Peters made the pass for the lead in back section of the course and quickly pulled a gap on Renzland and took another win, this time with a seven second lead. Kawasaki rider, Joshua Willin, completed the podium with a 4-3 tally.

Peters, Renzland, Billy Hauser, Nick Desiderio and Willin led the pack out of the switch-back first turn in the first Open Amateur moto. Peters and Renzland quickly left the pack behind as they battled for the lead. Only two bike lengths separated the two until lap two when Renzland emerged from the back of the racecourse ahead of Peters. Desidero, Joseph Chmielewski and Willin rounded out the top five. Renzland started lap three with a two second lead over Peters. Third through fifth were already starting to spread out on the notoriously rough Raceway Park racecourse. Renzland continued to hold the point when he disappeared over the huge raceway park elevator but it was Peters who re-appeared ahead of Renzland on huge infield double with less than a half lap to go. Peters held it wide open through the final rhythm section to secure the win. Renzland, Desiderio, Willin and Hauser completed the top five.

Houser, Willin Renzland, Peters and Brad Wainwright led the start of the final Open Amateur moto. Renzland and Peters quickly relegated Hauser and Willin to third and fourth in the back section of the track. Renzland started lap three with a three second lead over Peters. Renzland continued to hold the point until lap four when the leaders started to encounter lapped traffic. Lappers helped Peters close the gap on Renzland and Peters emerged from the back with lead with only a lap and half to go. Peters quickly pulled away from Renzland and took the checkers seven seconds ahead of Renzland. Willin, Hauser and Wainwright closed out the top five.
