Four Wins and Two Podiums

BINGHAMTON, NY, August 21 2010
Hurd Motorsports hosted a motocross race on Saturday, August 21, at
their beautiful facility nestled in the rolling hills of upstate New
York. Mother Nature provided an overcast day, a nice breeze and temperatures
in the upper 70’s, perfect weather for racing.
Kawasaki pilot, Kevin Hicks, topped the podiums of the 250 and Open
Novice classes and did it with a pair of 1-1 rides. Hicks Kawasaki’s
were adorned with his new amateur national number, 31, courtesy of the
Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Motocross Championships.
Zachary Rice, Hicks, Tagin Sprouse, Dustin Larson and Jason Chacho
led the start of the first Open Novice moto. Hicks quickly maneuvered
around Rice in the front rhythm section to take the lead. Sprouse passed
Rice taking second. Rice was relegated to third. Chacho and Danny Colachino
rounded out the top five. Shortly after the start of lap two, Chacho
passed Rice securing third. Rice was displaced to fourth. Hicks steadily
pulled away and started lap four with a 16-second advantage that became
18-seconds at the checkers. Chacho, Rice, Colachino and Keegan Bulger
completed the top five.
Rice, Colachino, Hicks, John Welch and Sprouse led the pack in the
final Open Novice moto. Sprouse and Hicks quickly moved to the front
of the pack. Rice, Colachino and Chacho followed. Hicks battled with
Sprouse for the lead until Hicks passed Sprouse in the air over the
massive Broome-Tioga Ski Jump. Sprouse was relegated to second. Hicks,
with a clear racetrack ahead of him, quickly began to gap the field
once again and had an eight second advantage at the start of lap two
that became 13 on lap three and 16 at the start of lap four. Hicks took
the white flag 20-seconds ahead of Sprouse. Chacho went down and Colachino
inherited fourth and Welch fifth. Hicks took the checkered flag with
a 21-second lead. Sprouse, Rice, Colachino and Welch rounded out the
top five.
Hicks (1-1) topped the podium. Rice (3-3) took second and Sprouse (6-2)
third.
Colachino, and Hicks shared holeshot honors in the opening 250 Novice
moto. Chacho, Rice and Welch followed. Hicks passed Colachino in the
front section securing the lead. Colachino was displaced to second.
Hicks had a six second lead at the start of lap two that turned into
9-seconds at the start of lap three and 14 by the start of lap four.
Chacho reeled in Colachino and made the pass for second on the front
sections table top. Colachino was relegated to third. Hicks crossed
the finish line for the win 14-seconds ahead of Chacho. Colachino, Rice
and Welch closed out the top five.
Chacho, Hicks, Colachino and Rice led the start of the final 250 Novice
moto. Hicks quickly relegated Chacho to second in the front rhythm section
and immediately began pulling away. Colachino, Rice and Welch rounded
out the top five. Hicks started lap three with a nine second advantage
that became 15-seconds on lap four, 16 at the white flag and 19 at the
checkers. Rice, Chacho, Colachino and Welch completed the top five.
Hicks topped his second podium with another perfect 1-1. Chacho took
runner-up with a 2-3 and Rice completed the podium via a 4-2 score.
